DECEMBER 2009 / JANUARY 2010

Barbara’s Broadcast

A Message from Newcomers’ President Barbara Ballo

The holidays are just around the corner, and this means our annual Candlelight Tour will now take the stage. Today’s business/luncheon will be dedicated to the Tour. As always, we are so grateful to the home-owners, businesses, and community members for the contributions to our Candlelight Tour of Homes. This will be our 36th year, and without their tremendous assistance we could not support the John S. Charlton and the Kent County Community Schools.

At this meeting, you will be able to purchase your tour booklet/tickets and raffles. Please show your support as a member of this club by purchasing your booklet/ticket and raffle tickets. (Due to the sale of the tour booklet/tickets, the 50/50 raffle tickets will not be sold at this meeting; 50/50 chances will resume in January.) Don’t forget, when you buy your tour booklet/ticket, your name will be entered in a member only drawing for a chance to win $100.00. The winner will be announced before the meeting adjourns.  In addition, I’d would like to take this opportunity to thank the Candlelight Tour Chair, Barbara Hogan, and her “dream team” for all the hours of planning and hard work they have given in making this another successful year…now, let’s pray for a night free of any snow, rain, sleet, etc.

Our Program Chair, Audrey Wallace, has planned a wonderful mystery theater afternoon for you. This will take place prior to lunch, and during dessert. Maybe you will have a suspect sitting at your table. Don’t make them too comfortable; you could have a murderer in your midst. Put your detective instincts to the test…see if you can guess who the murderer is.

Our School Favors Chair, Barbara Bolman, and our Ways and Means Chair, Donna Grieshaber, have also been very busy.  Barbara delivered 131 Halloween treats to the children of KCCS, and Donna sold coupons worth a total of $180.00 for Macy’s Day, “Shop for a Cause”. You are both super!

Our January luncheon will be held at Frazier’s Restaurant in Dover. The program will be “Treasurers of Delaware Public Archives.”  We will also have an update on the trip to Pennsylvania to see Nana’s Naughty Knickers, and our Philanthropic Chair, Carol Kujawa, will be giving us an update on the sewing projects for the schools.

The next board meeting will be held at the Kent County Community School on January 7th at 10:00 am.

As always, during this month of December, there will not be a board meeting or a monthly membership business/luncheon meeting; therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you and yours, very happy holidays.

“Have a heart that never hardens, a temper that never tires,
and a touch that never hurts.”
