The development of the School Profiles is a joint effort between the Department of Education and the schools. All of the data and text were provided by the schools and districts and compiled and published by the Department of Education in a standard format to allow for school comparison.

The Kent County Community School (KCCS) serves approximately 65 students, from infancy to 21, who exhibit a variety of physical, sensory, and cognitive disabilities, as well as students who are medically fragile. The staff consists of the principal, a Senior Secretary , a Case Manager , an Educational Diagnostician-DAP, a Psychologist (KCCS-DAP), 2 R.N. Nurses, 5 Speech Therapists, an Occupational Therapist, an Occupational Therapist -DAP, an Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), 2 Physical Therapists and a Physical Therapist-DAP, plus many wonderful part time help - Music, art, and physical education are also provided. Specialists in visual impairment, deaf-blindness, and orthopedics (from the public and private sectors) serve the students on a regular basis. Students receive their education at the East Dover Elementary School in integrated and inclusive settings. Some students are served at Dover High School,at Central Middle School. A program for typical four year olds is housed at KCCS. This provides another opportunity for KCCS and typical children to interact in a variety of learning and recreational activities.

Mission:

The Kent County Community School, with the cooperation of parents and the community, seeks to enhance student educational potential, while promoting physical well-being, independence and self-esteem, in preparation for inclusion in society.

Goals:

1. To provide technology which will be integrated with the curriculum and used in classrooms on a regular basis. 2. To design, implement, and assess a comprehensive staff-development program. 3. To increase parent participation in KCCS activities. 4. To plan, design, and develop a therapeutic aquatic program. 5. To increase social activities for students. 6. To be in compliance with state and federal regulations in special education. 7. To increase efficiency and effectiveness in the use of staff time. 8. To develop a pre-vocational, vocational, and work-study program for KCCS students.
